○bolt　：　電光、稲妻

『A bolt out of the blue.』
「青天の霹靂」

○grass　：　芝生、草

『The grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence.』
「隣の芝生は青い」

○lay　：　産む

『A black hen lays a white egg.』
「鳶（とび）が鷹（たか）を生む」


■Break Time■　−十人十色−

本日は、色を使ったことわざをご紹介しましたが、“好みや考えなどは人によってそれぞれみな異なる”という意味の「十人十色」を、英語ではどのように表現するかご存じですか？
例えば、漢字の表現と同じような『Ten people, ten colors.』や意味として同じ表現になる『So many men, so many minds.』のような表現があるんですよ。
